History and Timeline

Focusing on research

Our company was founded in Genoa, Italy in 1996 after several years of synergic contribution made by physicians, computer scientists and electronic engineers in the study of image analysis and coronary angiography quantification.

In those first years of life Intelligent Images, our original company name, primarily focused on research activity in the field of cardiac image analysis, IT imaging medical standards.

Quantitative Coronary Angiography

Marketing and sales concentrated on our first product, Intelligent Images QCA, a software application with a novel deterministic algorithm for the automatic quantification of coronary stenosis.

DICOM Review Station

In the summer of 1999 we participated to the exhibition at the European Society of Cardiology, promoting new technologies within the ESC booth. DICOM technology in cardiology was starting to be adopted and we proudly introduced our first PC based multi-modality DICOM viewer.

In this occasion we also introduced the MediMatic product brand which we also later adopted as our company name.

Echocardiac Off-line Analysis

The 1999 ESC Congress also marked the beginning of an on-going scientific collaboration with Dr. Luigi Badano for the development of an off-line analysis tool for echocardiac DICOM images. This collaboration was extremely successful and productive, positively influencing our research and development strategies.

JOMED In-Vision View Agreement

In 2002 we signed our first major international contract with JOMED, a multi-national company operating in the field of IVUS imaging. Our product was selected among different worldwide manufacturers as the IVUS review and analysis tool to be provided to the JOMED customer base worldwide with a commitment of 1000+ units in two years.

Unfortunately an unexpected economic crisis which lead to JOMED’s bankruptcy did not allow a successful completion of the initial project. At the same it had already provided us both international product installations and visibility and better awareness of the potential of our technology.

International Product Distribution

In 2003, as a result of the international visibility obtained with the JOMED agreement, we signed a contract with CVS – Cardio Vascular Sales, for the distribution of our products in the USA.

In the same year we also started to establish our presence in Japan with a distribution agreement with E-Works.

ComPACS

In 2004 we released the first revision of ComPACS, a novel multi-modality PACS cardiology solution resulting from our experience of the previous years and the extensive analysis of customer feedback. ComPACS complete new design with a new generation architecture and a complete exploitation of novel IT technologies have made it today, one of the most technologically advanced solutions in the field.

Expanding Worldwide

The success of our ComPACS distribution and our desire to be as close as possible to our customers in order to better and more quickly respond to their needs, have lead to a new strategy aiming to an international presence throughout direct subsidiaries.

In September 2008 MediMatic Inc, incorporated in Delaware, was founded to be able to better address the requirements of the USA market, its growing integration needs and to further consolidate our presence.

In April 2009 MediMatic AS was also founded in Norway to address the distribution of our products in Scandinavia and address the specific requirements of Northern European countries.

As a result, MediMatic has become an advanced solution provider with a worldwide installed base and presence. Our products are all characterized by their underlying exploitation of the advances in information and communication technology, leading to innovative, efficient, versatile and cost-effective solutions.
